Often used as a synonym of a stone statue, a stone sculpture
is an artistic imagination brought out on stone. It includes animals
and birds, human and god figures, figurative images in
various contemporary, medieval or ancient forms of different civilizations.
The figures are carved out of stone by chiseling them in various forms and finishes. Stone sculptures in sandstone, limestone, granite, soapstone, marble can be made to different degrees of intricacies. The size is the deciding factor as to where it can be installed. Tiny figurines are typical showcase sculptures. They can be displayed on corner and side tables. Larger ones require a bigger area surround to bring out the beauty of the stone.
